Who We Are
Puma Path’s founder, Wilfredo Gibaja Tapia (Eddy), also known as “ The Andean Puma” was born in Ollantayambo, Peru. Eddy’s home town is located in the sacred valley which is surrounded by many Inka sacred structures. It is a beautiful small town which acts as a gateway for many of the treks including the Inca trail. Growing up in Ollantayambo allowed Eddy, The Andean Puma, to immerse himself in the Inka culture and become one of the most knowledgeable and experienced Peruvian tour guides. As a child, he was able to extensively explore the Inka sacred structures and their surrounding trails. “The Andean Puma” sought mentor ship from the Inka elders who held the secrets to this past civilization. His passion to share all he had learned and discovered led him at the early age of 7 to tour guiding in his hometown. In addition, “The Andean Puma” is a direct descent of the Inkas. This not only makes Eddy different from other indigenous tour guides but it also creates a personal investment for him. He is proud of his culture and feels it is his spiritual journey to share the teachings of the Inka culture and philosophy with others in the hopes of transforming lives and positively impacting Pachamama, mother earth.
Why the name, Puma Path?
Inka culture is surrounded by imagines of the Puma. Many sacred Inka cities and structures were created in the Puma imagine. The Puma is the strongest, most courageous, and wisest animal in the Andes; the ultimate display of inner strength and conviction. These are the qualities that made the Puma an important symbol and source of inspiration in the pre-Inka and Inka culture. The Inka people believed that their soul (living spirit) was a Puma. This belief gave them daily inner strength to accomplish extraordinary tasks which might otherwise seem insurmountable (when visiting these sacred Inka cities ,it becomes apparent that the Puma within the Inka people yielded tremendous power and inner strength both for the individual and the society as a whole). At Puma Path, our intention is to make you feel like a Puma. One might think this an extraordinary task. However, when you experience the beauty and energy the Andes and the Inka culture offers combined with the expertise and support from the professionals at Puma Path, all things are possible.
